Happy Chinese New Year / 新年快樂

Whipped up a quick image to greet everyone with a Happy Chinese New Year! So it is Chinese New Year and hopefully everyone is getting their fair share of red pocket money. It’s also the year of the Tiger. I have to say, Chinese New Year is not a very exciting time in Australia. In Hong Kong, and most other parts of Asia, it’s a huge event. Bigger than Christmas. I’ve spent CNY in HK before and it’s the best. My grandmother cooks the best food for CNY and it’s good to see so many people get excited about it.

Tết – Vietnamnese New Year Festival

Tết - Vietnamnese New Year Festival
Went with Jason, Niggy and Johnson to this years Vietnamnese New Year Festival, also known as Tết Nguyên Đán. Lot’s of garlic beef balls, sugar cane drink and beef with lotus leaf skewers. After the night out, the breath was incredibly garlic flavoured and you really had to brush your teeth 5 times before it goes away.

Karaoke Australia Day

Australia Day Karaoke
I have to admit I’ve been pretty slack with keeping up to date but have been busy settling into my new work. On the even of Australia day, we decided do the most Asian thing and go Karaoke. Well Miriam’s sister decided anyway.

New Years

2010-NY_BDAY4
New Years is a great time to celebrate and bid farewell to the end of the year, but it is also the day I was born and as a result, we always get together with a bunch of friends to eat and bum.

Friends, Dinner & Guitar Hero

IMG_0964
Have been too busy to update the blog the past few weeks. Everytime I try to, it’s usually either 3-4am in the morning and I am dead tired. Finally have a bit of a break for today, before another busy week starts again. Have a couple of things in the works and pipeline which might be quite exciting, but will reveal them in due time, or when they are finalised.

Sukiyaki BSA Lunch Event

BSA is holding an all-you-can-eat Sukiyaki lunch for their members. Those who are members can attend for only $15. For those who do not know what Sukiyaki (すき焼き), it is similar to the chinese/korean hotpot or steamboat, but instead of light soup base with dipping sauce, there is no sauce for sukiyaki since the soup is really strong in flavour. Typically the ingredients include sliced beef and vegetables such as Shitake mushrooms.

Dong x Yujin

20090614-IMG_7452
So out of my close group of friends, it seems the most unlikely candidate has tied the knot first, to the surprise of everyone. Congratulations to him, but I still can’t take him seriously when he says he is married. In the midst of exams, I attended Dong and Yujin’s ceremony. Much to my surprise, it was all in Korean and I understood the words: “Dong” and “Yujin”. Big turnout from all of their church friends.
